A South Australian Makeup Brand With A Difference

A feel good story about a South Australian mum overcoming adversity to start a very special makeup brand. Want to know more, read this story about Ruth and REB Cosmetics…

To overcome adversity is a beautiful thing, so when we heard the story of Ruth, owner of new South Australian vegan makeup brand, we just had to tell it…

REB Cosmetics was born out of multiple circumstances. Ruth was forced to become a stay at home mum after her son fell very ill five years ago. It wasn’t a pleasant time and after almost losing him, they bought him home from hospital. This meant that Ruth had to quit her managerial position in a clothing company to become her son’s full time carer. Although she was at home, she wanted to keep her mind stimulated and active so she started by having accessory supply parties at her house.

All the pretty nail polish colours standing in a row.

However, Ruth’s true passion has always been makeup. Which she says is kind of ironic considering she has very sensitive skin and the use of many cosmetic brands resulted in a nasty reaction. In early 2013 she decided that she wanted to educate herself on what actually goes into cosmetics. Better the devil you know… Well it is fair to say that she was absolutely horrified!

The chemicals that are used in many of the popular makeup brands were the answer to why her skin reacted so badly to them. She was also disgusted to find out about the animal ingredients and fats that were used in many products, not to mention the animal testing. Enough was enough! Ruth started REB Cosmetics and hasn’t looked back.

Divine lipstick colours.

All made in South Australia, the products in this range are made from all naturally derived ingredients, contain no chemicals, are not tested on animals and are completely vegan friendly.

Now, just to make the point, Ruth is not actually vegan. But she doesn’t think that matters. The point of the products being vegan is because she doesn’t agree with the animal testing or the use of animal fats etc. in makeup products.

With prices starting from $19.95, the range is super affordable and includes everything from the nail polish which contains no Phthalate, Toluene or Formaldehyde, a fantastic range of colourful lipsticks, eye shadow containing no FD and C dyes which are actually harmful to the skin and eyes, plus foundation which contains amazing for your skin zinc!

A bright pop of red from this vegan lipgloss.

We love this feel good story and think that it is fantastic to see a South Australian proud mum working hard to make something happen that she is so passionate about. After the launch of their vegan and mineral cosmetic range this week, at which guests were offered champagne and nibbles, along with the chance to win prizes, special discount offers and the chance to have their makeup done by a makeup artist, we can’t wait to see the success of this great brand continue to grow. And guys, ten per cent of the sales made at the launch were donated to the Animal Welfare League for their City To Bay fundraiser – spot on REB Cosmetics!

If you are passionate about using vegan and non-animal tested products, you can find REB Cosmetics at The Pin Up Lounge in Port Adelaide, Health and Vitality at Sefton Plaza and Bella Mia Bridal in Henley Beach. Alternatively, check out their website.

Also, just to mention, they also do lip gloss, lip liner, liquid foundation, pressed foundation, trio concealers, blush, mascara, liquid liner, pencil liner AND accessories. Somebody stop us from buying one of everything in every colour!!
