Many Adelaideans love the hustle and bustle the Clipsal 500 brings to our state each year, and the event fills them with supercar-fuelled pride. On the other hand, many do not share this enthusiasm. Wherever you stand on this issue, the news that $70,000 was raised for local children’s charities over Clipsal weekend is a number to be proud of.
If you spotted our Glam article leading up to the inaugural Clipsal 500 weekend, you would know that local business Davies Electrical joined forces with Clipsal organisers and the internationally renowned body of Ferrari Club Australia to raise money for Variety SA, the Childhood Cancer Association and the Women’s and Children’s Hospital Foundation.
Ferrari enthusiasts of Ferrari Club Australia were taking their world class vehicles down to the Ferrari Super Car Display at the Clipsal 500, for the public’s viewing pleasure. Seeing these truly incredible vehicles in person alone was bound to be a real treat, but organisers chose to one step further, all in the name of charity.
The companies involved organized an online charity bid to win a place in the passenger seat of a world class Ferrari for three laps of the Clipsal 500 track. Bids were placed through private message on Facebook, with the final top six bids taking a ride of a lifetime on Friday, February 27th. These vehicles were donated by Ferrari Club Australia SA members. All money raised from this incredible experience went to Variety SA, the Childhood Cancer Association and the Women’s and Children’s Hospital Foundation.
Across the rest of the weekend the passenger seats of vehicles donated by local Ferrari dealer, Ferrari Adelaide, were also auctioned and given to local children suffering from cancer, so they too could enjoy the ride of a lifetime. Thirty-three Ferrari’s sped around the track to put smiles on faces of children and adults alike.
All in all the Ferrari Club Clipsal Track Ride raised a whopping $70,000 for the selected charities. An incredible and truly awe-inspiring figure.
