There’s something about walking around a market filled with gorgeous handmade gifts, artwork and homewares that makes you feel like “hell yeah – I could and SHOULD try that”. The problem is, you leave rearing and ready to go but by the time you’ve gotten home, a million other things have popped up and your great plans to take that class have slipped through the cracks, banished to the pesky “one day” list.
If this sounds like you, we’ve got good news.
Gathered SA, one of Adelaide’s premier markets, is hosting a range of fun, quirky workshops this weekend (August 5 & 6) with some of Adelaide’s most talented creatives. You can learn to make your own set of gorgeous dishwares, weave a trendy wall-hanging or nail the art of floral arrangements at the market. So once you’ve wandered around and are brimming with inspo, you can get stuck into a class then and there. No experience or “finding the time” necessary.
Once you’re done, you can wander over to the pop-up bar, grab a vino and give yourself a pat on the back for ticking something off that damn “one day” list.
Classes for the upcoming Gathered Market are booking up quick though so we’d recommend locking in your tickets now to avoid disappointment. Here’s what’s on offer:
Saturday 5 August Workshop
HANDBUILDING WITH CLAY WORKSHOP
Join local potter Christy Pinkney from Seedleaf Designs for a Hand Building with Clay Workshop on Saturday 5th August at the Gathered Winter Market from 11am – 3.30pm
You’ll be introduced to a range of fun and simple hand-building techniques to make your very own set of wares, including a cup, dish & spoon set, plate and planter pot. Once formed, pieces will be decorated using coloured paints in a fun design (there will be plenty of examples for inspiration).
Your pieces will be glazed, fired and packaged, ready for collection from Christy’s St Peters pottery studio, approximately two weeks after. Alternatively, items can be posted out to you for a small fee.
Workshop includes: all materials, aprons, firing, glazing and plenty of fun. No prior experience is required, just plenty of enthusiasm!

Sunday 6 August Workshops
LEARN TO WEAVE
Enjoy a relaxed Learn-to-Weave session with Megan Walsh-Cheek: Textile Artist / A Visual Sensibility on Sunday 6th August
Participants will learn simple beginners tips + tricks, practice 3 popular weaving techniques, as well as how to start and finish a weaving ready for hanging.

FLOWER MASTERCLASS
Join Fleur De Lys for a Flower Masterclass on Sunday 6th August whilst working amongst the bustle of the Gathered Market. You’ll learn tips and tricks of the trade, care tips, flower maintenance, and colour matching. You’ll also pull together your very own arrangement to take home on the day (winning!). This is the perfect mini-masterclass for anyone who loves fresh blooms and getting hands on.
