The 100 members of the 2014 BRW Young Rich List have enjoyed a stunning rise in wealth this year, with a booming technology market and strong stock market floats boosting overall wealth to a record $8.3 billion.

Atlassian co-founders Mike Cannon-Brookes and Scott Farquhar top the list with combined wealth of $2.1 billion, up from $550 million a year ago. Their software company Atlassian is now valued at more than $3 billion after significant equity injections from United States investors T Rowe Price and Dragoneer Investment Capital earlier this year.

3 and 4 on the 2014 BRW Young Rich List are debutant’s Dave Greiner and Ben Richardson, whose combined wealth reaches $500 million. The pair run Sydney email marketing firm Campaign Monitor, which received a big investment from Insight Venture Partners earlier this year.

5 is technology investor Simon Clausen, whose wealth reaches $487 million compared to $350 million a year ago, primarily from the increasing value of his Freelancer shares.

Online retailer Ruslan Kogan is at 6 with $349 million wealth, while Patrick Grove is seventh at $344 million. Grove has several Australian Securities Exchanges listed entities, including iProperty Group and iCar Asia.

Owen Kerr, another BRW Young Rich debutant, is at 8 with $256 million, from his shareholding in foreign exchange broker Pepperstone. 9 is The Catch Group co-founder Hezi Leibovich at $213 million and 10 and 11 are Melbourne entrepreneurs Gavin Fernandez and George Nakas. Fernandez and Nakas’s biggest asset is the luxury and sports car businesses James Lane Motors and Dutton Wholesale.

Technology is the dominant sector with 30 people on the list. Next comes sport with 13 and then services at 11. The most popular states are VIC and NSW with 24 each. 16 of the list reside in the United States, and are mostly either sports stars or technology entrepreneurs based in Silicon Valley.

The BRW Young Rich list recording the wealth of our richest Australians aged 40 and under has been published annually since 2003.
