Acclaimed soprano Greta Bradman, world-class tenor Rosario la Spina and award-winning jazz singer Emma Pask will headline the Bundaleer Festival, on March 22 to 24, in Jamestown, South Australia.
They will be joined by a diverse range of performers who will come together under the canopy of the stunning Bundaleer Forest for a magical weekend of music, art, food and wine.
Festival chairman Leith Cooper said the 2013 event, now part of the Adelaide Fringe program, would encompass a wide range of musical styles – everything from opera, jazz and musical theatre to African percussion, contemporary rock and a barbershop quartet.
“From the rich sounds of the African drumming group, Seneoz, to the vocal extravaganza of the Twilight Concert, this year’s festival promises to be one of the most memorable yet,” he said.
“The forest, one of the oldest in Australia, provides the perfect backdrop for this unique festival, and the Jamestown community looks forward to welcoming visitors from all over the country.”
Greta Bradman, one of the leading sopranos of her generation, and Milan-based, Australian-born Rosario la Spina will appear with the 32-piece Adelaide Art Orchestra, conducted by acclaimed musician, composer and conductor, Timothy Sexton. They will be joined by 16 members of the State Opera Chorus in a Twilight Concert featuring opera favourites and selections from the great musicals.
Sydney-based Emma Pask, who sung at the 2011 Bundaleer Festival with James Morrison, will swing her way through a late-night set with the Bruce Hancock Septet. Discovered by Morrison at age 16, Pask was named Jazz Vocalist of the Year at the 2006 Mo Awards and performed at the wedding of Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban.
The festival kicks off on Friday, March 22, with Friday night in the Forest – a fun celebration for visitors and the local community featuring Adelaide party band Audiobox and Mid North rock ‘n’ roll favourites The Reminders.
The Saturday program starts at 3pm, with roving entertainment and a Panoramic Walk featuring Seneoz, followed by Akoustic Odyssey and the Fish Bowl Boys on the main stage. The Twilight Concert starts at 7.30pm, and jazz and swing concert at 9.30pm.
On Sunday, the family-friendly Bundaleer Hollow will feature renowned children’s entertainer Peter Combe, pre-school favourites The Fairies and Humphrey Bear appearing with Noises for Kids, along with interactive music and craft workshops. There’ll be plenty to offer adults too, with performing artists along forest walks and in the picnic grounds. The Festival will conclude at 4pm, after a finale Dixieland Jazz Concert by the Bruce Hancock Septet.
Regionally-inspired food, local wine and coffee will be on offer, and caravan and campsites are available at the adjacent Curnow’s Camp. Accommodation is also available in Jamestown, Clare and neighbouring towns.
