You know those talented kids that just make you feel bad about where your life looks to be heading while they have the world at their feet? Well, Shuan Hern Lee is a 13 year old piano prodigy on his way to Adelaide this June.

You know those disgustingly talented kids that just make you feel bad about where your life looks to be heading while they have the world at their feet? Doesn’t the media just love to push stories about them under your nose to remind you that someone else is out there living your dreams…

Or, we could just be celebrating their talent. But, you know, it’s easier to make these things about us.

Anyway, one of Australia’s youngest piano prodigies, thirteen year old Shuan Hern Lee will make his Adelaide recital debut for Recitals Australia on Sunday 26 June at 2.30pm in Elder Hall, North Terrace, Adelaide.

Perth-born Shaun Hern Lee began piano lessons at age two and half with his father, Yoon Sen Lee.  A home-schooled student with the Australian Christian College, Shuan Hern has won top prizes at various international piano competitions in the USA, UK, Ukraine and Kazakhstan. He has performed in many countries throughout the world as soloist, in gala concerts and in music festivals. He has also performed concerto works with several orchestras in Australia, Armenia, Austria, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Moscow. He performed in Carnegie Hall at the age of seven.

Shuan Hern’s Adelaide recital program comprises of Haydn – Sonata Hob XVI/50; Chopin – Ballad No. 2 Liszt – Spanish Rhapsody; Beethoven – Sonata Op. 31 no. 1; Debussy – L’isle Joyeuse; Balakirev – Islamey. Some quality classics right there.

Shuan Hern obtained the Associate of the Trinity College of London piano performance recital diploma at the age of nine.  At the age of ten, he was awarded both the Dip ABRSM and the Licentiate Diploma in Music for piano performance of the Australian Music Examinations Board with Distinction (L.Mus.A. Dist) and also the L.Mus. Prize.

Shuan Hern has appeared regularly in the media including; The West Australian, Australian Chinese Times, Channel 7 Today Tonight, Australia’s Got Talent, Sunrise and other television and radio programmes in Australia, China, Russia, Kazahkstan and Ukraine.

Apart from piano performance, Shuan Hern is also a singer and in June 2014 Shuan Hern won the most promising singer award at the Australian Chinese Times Idol singing competition.  Shuan Hern has also been featured in The Voice Kids Show where he was in Delta Goodrem’s team in 2014.

He was a recipient of the AMP Tomorrow’s Fund Award 2014 and the recipient of a grant from Department of Arts and Culture, Australia.

Besides continuing his studies with Yoon Sen, since early 2016 Shuan Hern has also been enrolled at the world renowned International Piano Academy of Imola, Italy, under the tutelage of Ingrid Fliter.
