’Smokey Joe’s Cafe’ Set To Rock And Roll The Adelaide Hills

The Hills Musical Company are taking you back to the birth of rock ’n’ roll at the Stirling Community Theatre in November 2016, with the Jukebox musical revue Smokey Joe’s Cafe.

The Hills Musical Company are taking you back to the birth of rock ’n’ roll at the Stirling Community Theatre in November 2016. They are proud to present the Jukebox musical revue Smokey Joe’s Cafe: The Songs of Leiber and Stoller.

Leiber and Stoller, as much as anyone, virtually invented rock ‘n’ roll, and now their songs provide the basis for electrifying entertainment that illuminates a golden age of American culture.

In an idealised ’50’s setting, the classic themes of love – won, lost and imagined, blend with hilarious set-pieces and ‘slice-of-life’ emotions. Smokey Joe’s Cafe isn’t just great pop music – it’s compelling musical theatre.

Award-winning community group, the Hills Musical Company has attracted a dynamic production team, including Mark DeLaine (direction and musical direction) and theatre stalwart Melanie George (choreography) as well as a star-studded cast of Adelaide’s best performers, including Michelle Nightingale, Fiona DeLaine and Jenny Scarce-Tolley.

Director, Mark DeLaine says: “We have assembled a stellar cast of Adelaide talent. They are going to raise the roof with some fantastic arrangements of classic rock ’n’ roll hits. A fantastic ‘party’ to end the year featuring Adelaide’s best talent with a 7 piece band on stage and an SA Premiere as well!”

The longest running musical revue in Broadway history, Smokey Joe’s Cafe is a song and dance revue showcasing 39 pop standards, including Love Potion #9, On Broadway, I’m A Woman, Yakety Yak, Jailhouse Rock, Houndog, and more rock and roll, rhythm and blues songs written by songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller.
