Harold Pinter’s ‘Old Times’ Coming To Adelaide For Short Season

‘Old Times’ is directed by former head of NIDA Acting, Tony Knight and stars Rachael Wegener, Marc Clement and Charlotte Rose.

Nobel Laureate, Harold Pinter, was a master at conveying the thrill, the mystery and the destructive force of desire.

One of the most influential modern British dramatists, his writing career spanned more than 50 years. His style even entering the English language as an adjective, “Pinteresque”.

Old TimesOld Times is directed by former head of NIDA Acting, Tony Knight and stars Rachael Wegener, Marc Clement  and Charlotte Rose in this fast witty English tongue in cheek play which acknowledges the English class system.

A tense, taught, sexy, haunting and visceral play with light comedic moments of longtime friends reflecting on old times.

Twenty years after they had lived in London together Anna (Wegener) revisits Kate (Rose), now married to Deeley (Clement). The visit stirs vivid memories of old times in all three, sometimes complementary, sometimes conflicting.

Old Times1The reminiscing in Old Times soon becomes a dangerous game. What emerges through the haze of gossip and drinks, is that Kate is an unattainable figure to whom the two others lay claim; and that in talking over the old times they are reactivating a rivalry that has lain dormant since their youth.

Director Tony Knight was Head of Australia’s National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA) Acting program for 20 years, teaching Hollywood stars Cate Blanchett, Sam Worthington, Miranda Otto and Adelaide’s own Sarah Snook.
Knight studied at the Drama Centre in London and alongside teaching has been a director of shows such as AssassinsAngels In AmericaGuys & DollsOthello and many more productions in Australia and internationally. He is currently completing his Phd on Shakespearean actor Richard Burbage.
