This Friday will see Adelaide independent record label Mirador Records celebrate 4 years of existence with a massive warehouse party offering up all of the good vibes and incredible tunes. As music dealers, music celebrants and long time music admirers, the label are taking over the Queens Theatre in the heart of Adelaide on Friday, May 27th to reflect on the four years that have been while also looking to the future.
Headlining the event will be Sydney act Mansionair and local electronic producer Luke Million performing live, as well as Mirador acts Problems, World Wild and Nuseum taking to the stage. DJ sets will keep the vibes full and hearts racing from Valleys, Battlehounds, Going Steady and Mirador. The party will also feature the launch of a brand new Mirador Records arcade game label sampler and a pop-up record store of local releases curated by a collection of local crews.
Glam caught up with national notable Adelaide producer Luke Million, one of Adelaide’s most well known electronic artists ahead of his set as part of local record label Mirador Records 4 year party. We asked Luke which tracks have been the most influential in his career and to described how they shaped his music today. He was kind enough to give us his top five picks:
I still remember the very first time I heard ‘The Robots’. I had never heard anything like it before, it sounded so futuristic and absolutely spun me out that it was made in 1978. It introduced me to the world of Kraftwerk and vocoders and made me look at synthesisers in a whole new way.
It is so refreshing to hear electronic funk music in the charts once more. Together with ‘Uptown Funk’ by Mark Ronson, this track is responsible for the resurgence of some serious booty shaking baselines and grooves that make you bounce. Even though ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ crossed over to be a commercial hit, it still has a home on the dance floor in my DJ sets and puts a smile on my face every time.
The French are so influential in my musical education. At a glance there is Air, Allan Braxe, Cerrone, Space, Jean Michel Jarre and probably the most commercially successful artist from France, Daft Punk. For me it was all about their groundbreaking early work. ‘Around The World’ set the bar for a fusion of disco and house with banging drums that you couldn’t help loosing control on the dance floor to.
This is the Jam that introduced me to Electronic Funk. The boogie Moog bass and those synth licks are devine. The production of Hubert Eaves III is amazing and I haven’t heard many vocalists with such a huge voice like James Williams.
