Jump Aboard Adelaide Festival Centre’s 2011 Christmas Proms

Pack your bags and get ready to cruise this December at the Festival Theatre, as Adelaide Festival Centre’s Christmas Proms has a Love Boat theme. Featuring special guests Marina Prior and Bernard Walz on 16 and 17 December, Adelaide Festival Centre’s Christmas Proms is the perfect setting to get you in the festive spirit.

Marina Prior is regarded as Australia’s leading lady of musical theatre. She has played lead roles in productions including Cats, Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, The Witches of Eastwick, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and most recently Mary Poppins. She is also well-known to television audiences through her appearances on Carols by Candlelight, as a judge on Channel Seven’s It Takes Two and more recently as a guest role on City Homicide.

Marina’s recordings include Leading Lady, which reached platinum status, Aspects of Andrew Lloyd Webber (which reached gold status and for which she was nominated for an ARIA award) and Somewhere – the Songs of Sondheim and Bernstein. Marina has won numerous awards for her performances as well as an Advance Australia Award for her contribution to the performing arts. In 2006, she was honoured with induction into Australia’s 100 Entertainers of the Century.

Award-winning entertainer Bernard Walz is critically considered to be Australia’s premier pop pianist. His appearance at the 2009 Christmas Proms garnered rave reviews and Adelaide Festival Centre is proud to bring him back for another dose of musical delights in 2011.

Classically-trained, with a flair for musical thrills, Bernard’s music crosses the boundaries between classical and popular genres, creating a musical experience critics have described as "…thrilling, scholarly, spirited, deft, stimulating, playful, striking". His on-stage personality is equally dynamic and distinctive, communicating joy and excitement through music-making.

Making their return will be the ever-popular 34-piece Adelaide Art Orchestra and 16-voice Adelaide Vocal Project, conducted by Timothy Sexton, with the beloved Festival Theatre Silver Jubilee Organ once again making a guest appearance. There will also be an appearance from Santa Claus and plenty of laughs along the way with clowns Moose and Boppa.

Bring the whole family and cruise along to this year’s Christmas Proms and celebrate the spirit of Christmas, presented by Adelaide Festival Centre and performance partner Wallmans Lawyers.
