Illy Blows Away The Crowd At HQ

HQ’s first big act of 2018, Illy, hit the stage on Friday to show why Australia loves him so much.

Illy hit HQ on Friday, and in amongst the song and dance of the Fringe Festival, it was an Aussie hip-hop masterpiece that had the crowd hanging on his every rhyme.

It’s always fantastic to see local support acts on the bill, and Illy didn’t disappoint, with Adelaide acts Purpose, K21 and DJ Sanchez all backing him in before Illy hit the stage to wild roars from the all ages crowd that had assembled at HQ for him.

Illy hit the stage past 10pm, when it was obvious that the warm up acts had done their jobs and the crowd was ready. Running through a list of his (numerous) hits the crowd went wild, to the point where the backing track didn’t seem necessary as the crowd’s singing drowned out the choruses of Young Blood, Tightrope and more. Catch 22’s callback went nuts, but it wasn’t until Tightrope and Papercuts that Adelaide’s true love for the hip-hop sensation became truly apparent, with the entire crowd off their feet (or on someone’s shoulders).

Adelaide does seem to definitely ‘ily’ Illy, and HQ proved that with an epic show, from one of Australia’s top hip-hop acts.
