How To Do Christmas The Maggie Beer Way

Plus where you can meet her this weekend in Adelaide.

Oh to be a fly on the wall at Maggie Beer’s household over Christmas! The culinary icon will again celebrate Christmas with an elaborate feast in the Barossa, where her family calls home.

“We’re pretty boring in that Christmas is always the same thing,” laughs Maggie.

Preparations are already underway for the day, and this year lunch will include produce from Maggie, her daughter Saskia and husband Colin.

“For us, it’s all about the produce that we have. So we’ve got Saskia’s turkey and ham, we’ve got Colin’s goose, we’ve got stuffed salmon so that the pescatarians can be happy and lots of beautiful vege and salad.”

“So it’s always a feast and we always have it outside in the garden and there’s the family and there’s a few others without family. I try and prepare everything the day before. It’s a very late lunch – you’ve got to have time for the presents and the champagne first!”

Ahead of Christmas, Maggie will be at Westfield West Lakes this Saturday December 8 for a book signing of her latest cookbook Maggie’s Recipe for Life, plus there will be a special Maggie Beer Christmas Hamper station.

So what makes a good Chrissy hamper?

“A good Christmas hamper is things that you can use over Christmas. Things that will add that special touch to the ham or to the table that you don’t bother to do before, that have a Christmassy feel like Cumberland jelly. It’s about little treats that spoil yourself and spoil your friends,” she says.

If you want to leave it to the professionals, Maggie’s team will also be on hand Saturday selling the Maggie Beer range of Christmas hampers.

Maggie Beer will be at Westfield West Lakes for a book signing on Saturday December 8 from 9.30-10.30am at Market Court, adjacent The Yoghurt Shop. For all of the details, click here
