Historic Courthouse Now Home To Holiday Accommodation In The Riverland

A new apartment style accommodation has opened in the heart of Loxton, located in the historic Loxton Courthouse building.

When it comes to town pride, there are few places that can match it with Loxton. Locals are passionate about their town, and love to watch it adapt and transform. It is this progressive attitude which has seen the recently transformed Loxton Courthouse Apartments become the newest part of the town’s landscape.

The Loxton Courthouse was officially opened to pomp and ceremony over 50 years ago, in December, 1963. While there was (and still is) little crime to report, the courthouse housed many characters in its history. A former police officer tells of leaving an empty cell unlocked for a particular local on a Friday night, so that he might retire for the evening and avoid driving home after a lengthy session at the pub.

Years later, Loxton’s police station relocated, leaving an empty building in a prime location.

Loxton Courthouse Apartments was the passion project of three local families, and one Adelaide couple, who have holidayed in Loxton for the past 40 years. Inspired by the idea of creating modern, luxury accommodation for those who might want to discover their beloved town, these families collaborated to purchase the building and perform the ultimate makeover.

The Loxton Courthouse Apartments offers the Riverland newest accommodation option, offering four apartments each designed and fitted to ensure every stay is an enjoyable one.

The owners have chosen to incorporate some of the buildings history into the new apartments by maintaining the original stone work and signage. The apartments have also been named in line with the original position of the buildings layout. The four apartments are names The Judges Chambers, The Police Station, The Jury Room and The Courthouse.

The self-contained apartments are best described as “modern-luxury” and sleep from two up to seven people, with one studio offering disability friendly accommodation.

Destination Riverland General Manager Caroline Phillips said “The new accommodation is a great addition to our existing product offering in Loxton”

Caroline said. “They complement some of the great range of new businesses in the township adding to the vibrancy of the area”

One of the apartment owners Sheree Cameron, said all of owners were extremely passionate about Loxton and the location of the apartments is expected to a be a major drawcard, being within walking distance to the shopping precinct, Loxton new state of the art playground and the Murray River.
