Deck the halls with boughs of holly tra-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la! Yes, people, 4 more weeks til Christmas! That’s correct, 4, so if you or haven’t put your orders in for the Christmas ham you’d better make a move on. With that being said, you can imagine a month filled with Christmas parties, pageants, markets, over-extended shopping hours and a whole lot of traffic jams down at the Moana-beach drive.

Here’s what’s on this month:

December – Find Olive the Reindeer Competition

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Adelaide’s finest supermarkets! They’ve placed hand-crafted reindeer’s in each department at both of their stores, for you to find and go into the draw to win Olive the Reindeer! All you have to do is find Olive at Frewville or Pasadena Foodland, take a photo of Olive and upload to Facebook or Instagram, mention the department and store name and apply the @adelaidesfinestsupermarkets tag and #olivethereindeer and #adelaidefinestsupermarkets hashtags. Start searching now, the competition ends Monday, December 19th.

December – Daily tastings

Pop past Frewville Foodland and Pasadena Foodland who have whipped up a Christmas Feast Table ready for daily tastings.

 

December 1 – Burnside Village Christmas Shopping Day

Tackle two tasks at once. Entertain your kids while doing a spot of Christmas shopping. After grabbing a deal on the one day only sales, fulfil your child’s Xmas wishes with a Sesame street stage show and meet and greet afterwards. A photo with Elmo and the Cookie Monster will make any kid ecstatic.

December 1 – Madame Hanoi 

Kicking off the first day of Summer, Madame Hanoi is launching their very own Gin in collaboration with Settlers Spirits. The tea-infused Madame’s Gin perfectly matches with Madame Hanoi’s French-Vietnamese favours, so come along for the first taste. They’ll also be creating specially designed signature cocktails to be served alongside delicious canapés to match.

December 1 – Moonlight cinema 

Under the stars, at the Botanic Gardens, enjoy a movie out in the moonlight. The Moonlight cinema will be running through to the end of January with a new movie featured every night from The Secret Life of Pets to Moana, Suicide Squad or Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

December 2 – Moonlight Markets 

Back again for another summer season at Thorndon Park, the moonlight markets are now on to their sixth year with more stalls and activities than ever. Sit by the lake on a balmy summer night and look forward to a visit from Father Christmas and his elves. Expect live performances from a variety of local talent including music and dance, roaming Christmas carols and a record number of stalls and food outlets.

December 3 – Prancing Pony Brewery’s Birthday 

It’s the Pony’s 4th birthday (225 in pony years) and they’re kicking up their hooves for an afternoon of BBQing and $5 pints straight from the tap. For a whole lot of fun, be there by noon and celebrate your way through to 10 O’clock.

December 3 – Telethon SA Family Fun Day at Newenham

The free festive event caters for the entire family. Adults can spend a few hours relaxing in the beautiful setting while enjoying a broad selection of fine food and wine. For the kids, there’s show rides, face painting, balloons, Life Be In It activities and free photos with Santa! There will even be the chance to win a bike for Christmas. All they have to do is write a letter to Santa and pop it into his mailbox at Newenham. The Adelaide Hills Farmers’ Market will run a number of stalls selling everything from fresh and tasty jams, sauces and other condiments, Wicks Estate wine (on sale) and a range of food trucks. 

December 3 & 4  – Gathered market

In the magical Queen’s Theatre, the Gathered Markets will bring a new kind of market experience to Adelaide. A weekend of food, drinks, entertainment, workshops, plenty of vendors and so much more. When we say more, we mean more! There will be over 80 SA businesses to explore with hidden treasures everywhere. Just a $2 entry and you’ll be set.

December 4 – Gilles Street Grand Bazaar

The Gilles Street markets will expand out onto the street for a Christmas extravaganza. From 10am to 4pm roam between the 150 stalls searching for hidden gems to be wrapped up in time for Christmas morning. All the working will work up an appetite so, there’s plenty of food to satiate the hunger.

December 4 – The Lord Mayor’s Christmas Gala Concert 

For music lovers across Adelaide, it’s time to gather at the Adelaide Town Hall for the Lord Mayor’s Christmas Gala Concert featuring Mario Bellanova with Naomi Hede, the Australian Army Jazz Ensemble, the City of Adelaide Pipe Band and The Victoriana Society.

December 4 – Not the Usual Christmas Suspects

Local vino can be challenging to find, but not at Not the Usual Christmas Suspects with smaller, somewhat tiny, SA wineries being showcased in a grand tasting with nibbles from Faraja and marvellous sales to stock up the Xmas cellar. You can purchase tickets in advance for $15 or pay $20 at the door if you’re all for spontaneity.

December 5-8 – West End Redbacks Vs. NSW

This month Adelaide Oval is all about the Cricket. From 2pm til 9pm for four days watch some quality batting from our lads in golden weather. Plus, entry is free so, take the family out for the afternoon.

December 7 – Roy’s Annual Champagne & Sparkling Event

The end of the year is approaching and the Rob Roy Hotel though it was time to celebrate with bubbles. It will showcase a number of sparkling wines and champagnes from some of their favourite suppliers. Tickets are $75 per person.

December 6 – Dusk Night Markets

It’s another chance to gaze upon the magnificent house and garden at Carclews with it transforming for the night into a festive market bustling with live entertainment, art and design stalls, art workshops for kids and a huge selection of food trucks to strike your eye. We mustn’t forget the licensed bar by our one and only Alpha Box & Dice.

December 9 – Eddie the Eagle Outdoors 

Gilbert Street, just off Goodwood Road and adjacent to the Capri Cinema, will close for the evening for a family fun street party. Expect food, live music, and activities for your kids. When the sun sets it’s time to whip out the blankets and bean bags for the outdoor cinema entertainment featuring the film Eddie the Eagle.

December 9 – Santa’s Wonderland 

Forget the Adelaide Show, Santas in town! The Adelaide Showgrounds is hosting the ultimate Christmas wonderland with unlimited amusement rides, ice skating, ice tobogganing and winter snow falls. Sit down with Santa and his elves for story time, write him a letter or get your photo taken with the family. Santa’s Wonderland has plenty of food stalls, live entertainment and show bags for the kids.

December 9 – Polo in the City 

As part of the national Urban Polo series, the highly anticipated Land Rover Polo in the City is taking place in Adelaide at Victoria Park, entering into its second decade. Hospitable to corporate events or a day out with friends, ‘Polo in the City’ will expect impressive horsemanship of top players, local DJs, fashions on the field, shaded cider gardens and plenty of food and drink stalls for a great day out.

December 9 – Beachfront Twilight Markets

Rolling back into town are the Beachfront Twilight Markets at Seacliff who’re thrilled to give yet another unique shopping experience. There will be food, family fun, entertainment and lots of stallholders. Search for precious treasures in the stalls while enjoying a pleasant Summer stroll in the beautiful ocean breeze.

December 10 – Hot Dub Wine Machine

Head to the vineyards for a day of fine wine, beer, food and music. An awesome line-up is expected with Hot Dub Time Machine, Client Liaison, Bag Raiders, Touch Sensitive, Nicole Millar, Luke Million, GG Magree, Tom Tilley (triple J), Danny Clayton, Falcona DJs and Heartaches & Drumbreaks set to perform at Serafino winery. 

December 10 – Motley Village Music Festival 

Frolick for a balmy December’s eve in the Motley Village with green pastures, ample of entertainment including whimsical melodies from the headline act of the Pierce Brothers.

December 11 – Woolworths Carols by Candlelight

It’s the return of the much loved Adelaide Woolworths Carols in Elder Park. The night kicks off with food, family-friendly activities, and drinks following with Adelaide’s biggest carolling event and a spectacular firework display.

December 12 – Murray Bridge Park Run

It’s you against the clock. Every Saturday until December 31st there’s a free 5km fun run along Sturt Reserve. Register before your first run and don’t forget to bring along a printed copy of your barcode.

December 14 – Disney Immersive Zones

Burnside Village’s ultimate immersive experience is set to transport children to Neverland from December 14th to the 20th. From December 21 to the 23 dance among the fairies and captain a ship with Jake the Pirate. The Fairies zone alone will have a Xmas face painting fairy, Tinkerbell fairy friendship bracelets, Tinkerbell mini gold and the chance to create your own Tinkerbell journey.

December 16 – Twilight Races at Morphettville 

Festivity is all aroundHead down to Morphettville with friends, family, or colleagues to enjoy the summery night with a delicious menu and plenty of drinks behind the bar. Wear your summer’s best or a more casual approach to race wear. Either way, it’s going to be a memorable Christmas celebration.

December 16 – Lane Vineyard Twilight Sessions

When it’s time to knock off work escape the city and head for the vines for drinks, Christmas cheer and views of Mount Lofty’s spectacular sunsets. Out on the Lane Vineyard decking enjoy a divine a la carte menu in the perfect twilight setting. If you can’t make the first one there will be more throughout the summer with no bookings needed.

December 16 – G.H.Mumm Uncorked 

The last uncorked for 2016 with French Champagne from G.H.Mumm to enjoy. The event is free so, pop down to the National Wine Centre at 4:30pm to drink and celebrate the festive season. Complimentary cheese platters and oysters are also provided and you can enjoy a meal from the delectable Uncorked menu. If you prefer a more structured experience, you can book into a ‘Meet the Maker’ master class, which is held at the same time, for $40, but tickets are limited so, bookings are essential.

December 16 & 23 – Friday Festive Pop-ups 

What better way to celebrate the festive season than Adelaide Oval’s all new Friday Festive Pop-Ups! You’ve gotta love free entry, free entertainment on stage all night, drink specials and a rockstar view over the city skyline from the terrace bar high up on Level 5 at Adelaide Oval.

December 17 – Gifted Christmas Markets 

See what quirky purchases you can find at the one-stop Christmas shop with a massive bounty of handcrafted homewares, Christmas cards and gorgeous gift wrap. Eat your way through the day from a wide range of stalls from Beach Organics, Veggie Velo, Sweet Nectar, Bob Bowls and so much more. You’ll be tempted by the Chrissy themed cocktails and plenty of local beer, wine, and cider to enjoy. 

December 19 – ZOOcation Care School Holiday program 

With school out for the Summer give the kids something fun to do rather than sit in the house all day. If your kids are between the ages of 5 and 12, they can come along to the zoo and spend the day with a qualified Conversation Educator as they explore the zoo, getting to know all the animals. It’s a popular program, so be sure to book in advance.

December 21 – KFC Big Bash League Game 2 

Watch last year’s semi-finalists, the Adelaide Strikers, get their season off to the best possible start against Brisbane Heat at the Adelaide Oval. The league will be shown live and exclusively on Channel ten, but if they’re playing here in Adelaide all you cricket fanatics get down to the Adelaide Oval to support our Strikers.

December 30 – The Sailing club 

Bringing the bar to the beachside to celebrate into 2017 for the first time ever is The Sailing Club. Port Elliot will be the party spot this New Year’s Eve with a delicious line-up of food and drinks tempting you to betray that bikini body.

December 31 – KFC Big Bash League Game 11

The New Year’s Eve Big Bash cricket returns with the Adelaide Strikers taking on the Sydney Sixers. Captain Travis Head was the hero 12 months ago with a match-winning century in the last over, so don’t bother watching it on the couch. Head down to Adelaide Oval and see if the heroic actions will repeat itself.
