Fringe Review: Massaoke

Massaoke has returned to the Fringe for another year giving us the chance to belt out the words of our favourite anthems with absolutely no shame.

If you’ve been in the Garden of Unearthly Delights after 11pm lately you might have heard a roar of voices united in some classic songs echoing from the Spiegeltent. Massaoke has returned to the Fringe for another year giving us the chance to belt out the words of our favourite anthems with absolutely no shame. Located in the Spiegeltent in the Garden a live band glammed and glittered up to the max play rock, pop and indie anthems. Oh, and did we mention the lyrics are projected on screen for the audience to sing along?

The hits are endless and the crowd’s enthusiasm infectious. From T Swift to Journey to Queen and back to Beyonce, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. The show started off with just a few eager partygoers on dance floor and a ring of people standing around the edge cautiously watching. Just a few songs in however, the dance floor was packed and barely anyone was making use of the seating around the edge. Even those wary of karaoke are pretty much guaranteed to let their hair down and Shake it Off. Everyone is singing their heart’s out and it’s impossible to be self conscious.

It’s probably not a show you’re going to take your mum to but round up the mates, colleagues and pretty much whoever because this one’s more fun in a group (with a drink in your hand).

Check Massaoke out at 11pm from Thursday-Sunday nights in the Garden. Plus there’s a club set following the live show (S Club 7, Amy Winehouse, need I say more?) if you’re keen to keep dancing. Which, trust us, you will be.
