Those wanting to experience the glamour and excitement of this year’s Australian International Three Day Event (3DE) have until Monday to snap up earlybird discount tickets to what’s described as the ‘Pro Tour’ of horse sports.

The 3DE is the Southern Hemisphere’s most prestigious equestrian event and, this year, Adelaide’s eastern parklands will host the action from November 13-16.

Offering a packed schedule of competition, an evening polo match under lights, premium hospitality, master classes, kids’ activities and shopping, the Australian 3DE is the only event of its kind in the world to be held within a city.

Event Director Gillian Rolton is currently in Normandy, France as the first Australian to be appointed as President of the Ground Jury at the World Equestrian Games. She said the Australian 3DE is always popular with horse lovers but also has plenty to entertain and impress just about anyone.

“Guests can enjoy fine wines and catering from the Hilton Adelaide while kids get hands on with the the ‘Ready, Steady, Trot’ program, plus there are shopping opportunities in the marketplace, food trucks galore and big screens so you never miss any of the action,” Gill said.

“It will be a real festival atmosphere and this year’s competition is set to be more exciting than ever with a great line up of Olympians and world champions coming to Adelaide.

“We actually run over four days but we still call it a three day event based on the three phases of the sport, beginning with the dressage on Thursday and Friday – this is where the beauty and elegance of the animals are showcased.
“We then have the speed and thrill of the Qantas cross country on Saturday, which is a family day with free kids’ entry.

“Then the exciting ATCO show jumping on the Sunday will determine which riders will share in the $120,000 prize money – the biggest prize pool for equestrian in the Southern Hemisphere.

“As an added bonus, we have the Grant Burge Wines Polo in the Park on the Friday evening which is a glamorous and great fun affair and the VIP Marquee will certainly be the place to be.”

Equestrian stars coming to this year’s event include:

  • Olympic and European Championship Gold medalist Dirk Schrade from Germany
  • Recent Badminton Winner, UK based Sam Griffith
  • Last year’s 3DE superstar winner, UK based Olympian Chris Burton
  • Triple Gold medalist, UK based Andrew Hoy
  • Gold medalist Stuart Tinney
  • Silver medalists Shane Rose and Sonja Johnson
  • Aussie Silver medalist and Canadian Team Trainer, US based Clayton Fredericks
