Facebook fans bring international star to Adelaide Cabaret Festival!

Shoshana BeanShoshana Bean, star of the Broadway smash hits Wicked and Hairspray, is coming to Adelaide!

After the frenetic Facebook petition to ‘Bring Shoshana Bean to Adelaide when she comes to Australia’ and after her exclusive one-off performance at Brisbane’s Powerhouse, the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, in association with Harvest Rain and Arts Asia Pacific, is thrilled to announce that Shoshana Bean will feature in the stellar line-up of the Festival’s final weekend.

Shoshana will be performing with her musical director and a band of local musicians in the late night at the Banquet Room on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 June,  in a show she describes as “some good ol’ dirty blues and soul”.  In addition to her two solo shows, she will also go back to her musical theatre roots appearing as a guest vocalist in Along The Way – An Evening with Pasek and Paul.  This is a perfect match with one of the hottest talents on Broadway, showcasing the work of the brightest songwriters.

Shoshana recently released her debut solo album Superhero on her own label, Shotime Records.  In its first week of sales, Superhero reached #5 on the iTunes R&B charts, making it the only independent album in the top 100.

Raised in Portland, Oregon and a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Shoshana first appeared on the New York City theatre scene in the off-Broadway revival of Godspell.  Soon after, she made her Broadway debut in the original cast of the Tony Award-winning production of Hairspray and went on to be the first replacement for the famed green-skinned witch Elphaba in the Broadway sensation Wicked.  Following her year-long Broadway run, she was invited to reprise her performance throughout North America in the Wicked national tour.

Most recently Shoshana headlined in the Las Vegas burlesque revue Peepshow.  She made her Los Angeles concert debut at the Ford Amphitheatre in June 2008 and in November made her New York City concert debut to a sold out crowd at Rose Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Centre.

Shoshana has been a back-up singer for an endless list of superstars including Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Destiny’s Child, N’Sync, Ray Charles, Britney Spears and Michael Jackson at KTU’s Miracle on 34th Street and Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration, both at Madison Square Garden.  She gained national attention when she teamed up with Grammy Award nominee Brian McKnight to honour Aretha Franklin on the Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards.

Shoshana’s appearance at the Festival is a co-production with Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Harvest Rain Theatre company and Arts Asia Pacific.  Shoshana will also be appearing on Wednesday 23 June at the Brisbane Powerhouse, produced as part of Harvest Rain Theatre Company’s Broadway to Brisvegas Series.
