A desire for authentic experiences in untapped cultures has seen exponential growth in the exotic destinations market, according to leading travel company Phil Hoffmann Travel.

Phil Hoffmann, Managing Director of Phil Hoffmann Travel, said Burma and Papua New Guinea were fast becoming the exotic destinations of choice for savvy travellers.

“While most holidaymakers are still including places like Vietnam and Thailand on their travel itineraries, there has been a recent spike in bookings to more exotic places that are largely unaffected by the global tourism circuit,” he said.

“Travellers want to avoid the crowds and are increasingly looking for authentic cultural experiences.”

Phil Hoffmann Travel has experienced a 300% increase in clients travelling to Burma in the past two years.

“Burma is one of the world’s final travel frontiers,” Mr Hoffmann said.

“It is a dream destination for travellers looking to immerse themselves in an unspoilt ancient culture that was until recently closed to foreign tourists.”

Phil Hoffmann Travel says its experienced unprecedented growth in travel bookings to Papua New Guinea over the past 12 months.

“With close proximity to Australia, Papua New Guinea is an island hopping paradise for travellers,” Mr Hoffmann said.

“Taking in ports, such as Alotau, Rabaul and Kiriwina Island, Papua New Guinea offers a truly authentic experience of island life.”

Phil Hoffmann Travel says ocean and river cruising have become the travel mode of choice to uncover these exotic destinations.

“Cruising continues to grow in popularity among Australian travellers,” Mr Hoffmann said.

“This is a result of the inclusivity of pricing and ease of travelling that cruising provides.

“With cruising, you can unpack your suitcase and relax on board while discovering and experiencing new cultures along the way.”

Other emerging exotic destinations for the Australian market include Sri Lanka, Madagascar and Galapagos.

“With some fantastic cruise packages on offer and an enthusiasm and a passion for creating long-lasting travel memories, it’s never been a better time to get on board and tick off a new exotic destination from your travel list,” Mr Hoffmann said.
