Little Heroes Foundation
Description

Little Heroes Foundation supports seriously ill children and their families in SA.

Full Description

Little Heroes Foundations mission is to support children’s physical and mental health, with a new focus on Childhood Dementia.

In Australia, over 2,000 children are living with 1 of the 70 different strains of dementia, resulting in a progressive loss of skills such as the ability to write, read, talk, walk, and play. This can happen over months, years, or decades as their brains slowly deteriorate eventually leading to the inability to keep the body alive.

Childhood dementia causes around 90 deaths a year – a similar number to deaths from cancer in children aged 0-16, yet it is currently overlooked as a health and social issue.

Little Heroes Foundation aims to contribute to supporting families , searching for treatments and eventual cures for this condition.

Meanwhile, Little Heroes Foundation continues its partnership with Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation through our Big Talks for Little People campaign.

About 1 in 7 children between the ages of 4 and 17 have experienced a mental health issue in Australia.

The prevalence of mental health issues among our youth is increasing. Some of the common issues that young people face include bullying, worry or anxiety, relationship problems and body issues.

Despite the range of factors known to influence mental health, evidence for effective interventions for children and youth is lacking, which is why this must be a paramount focus in our community.
