“I am so excited to bring my music back to the stage again and see all of my loving and loyal Aussie fans up close.”

Latin music sensation, dynamic dancer, humanitarian, talent show judge, heart-throb for multiple generations of women (and men!) around the globe … Puerto Rican natural showman Ricky Martin graced Australian audiences after more than 10 years, in Ricky Martin Live.

Widely acknowledged for popularising Latin music, Martin began his singing career with Spanish-singing boy band Menudo in the 1980s. Following several group and solo albums spanning two decades, Martin’s performance of The Cup of Life at the 41st Grammy Awards catapulted his English singing popularity, leading to the release of his most renowned work, Livin’ La Vida Loca (selling over 8 million copies worldwide). 95 platinum records, 11 #1 hit songs, multiple music awards, 12 million social media followers … there’s no denying the world is sweating under the collar with Ricky Fever.

RICKY MARTIN - Glam Adelaide-8579Last night’s concert was led with an opening act from the smooth and lithe Timomatic, performing a number of his chart-topping hits including Parachute, his newest release Waterfalls, and If Looks Could Kill.

Martin is a natural entertainer though, and needed no warm up to keep his audiences engaged and leaping out of their seats craving for more. There’s no resisting the provocative charm of this silky smooth lothario. His impressive vocal presence is capable of everything from emotional ballads to Latin American, fast-paced numbers. Performing his well known greatest hits including Maria, and Shake Your Bon Bon, Martin also provided the audience with many of his newest releases from Ricky Martin Greatest Hits Souvenir Edition, including Come With Me.

Superbly accompanied by grandiose light displays and a troupe of agile and energetic dancers from all corners of the world… Martin gave his audiences every iota of the Latin American charm they were lusting for. He excelled at interacting with the audience, encouraging and coaching everyone to sing along with a few songs, and instructed the eager crowd on dance moves. His rapport was exemplary, and the screaming was ten-fold following these interactions.

As my companion pointed out, Martin doesn’t try to be charming (sexy, as she worded it) … he just is. And there’s certainly something to say about his undeniable appeal that makes even the most lead-footed fan bounce up and embrace their inner Latin dancer. The performance was a breakneck, feverish tempo of entertainment that showed all of us just how and why Martin is the musical success that he is.
