Comfort Food Cabaret: Food For The Soul At Adelaide Fringe

A unique showcase of South Australian produce, seasoned with songs, stories and laughter!

Adelaide cabaret performer Michelle Pearson will be tempting Fringe-goers into the Adelaide Central Markets for her unique new showcase of South Australian produce, seasoned with songs, stories and laughter.

Michelle, who is well known to previous Fringe audiences for her powerful and soulful performances of Michelle & the Gentlemen’s Club and Mixtape Memento, will deliver a whole new experience in 2017 that walks a line between cooking demo, supper club and cabaret performance.

In the loft-style Central Market Kitchen, upstairs at the iconic Adelaide Central Market, Michelle will serenade audiences while treating them to a selection her favourite comfort food. Think grilled haloumi and peaches, slow-cooked pasta with ingredients crowdsourced from Italian neighbourhoods across Adelaide, and a sticky date pudding inspired by the much-missed Ruby’s of Rundle Street.

Michelle and her live musicians, Aaron Nash and Michael Ciaramella, will perform the perfect playlist to accompany this taste of South Australia, with songs from artists as diverse as Nina Simone to Katy Perry and Cold Chisel reflecting the role food has played in Michelle’s childhood, romantic encounters, family and friendships.

Comfort Food Cabaret is where her two worlds collide and her obsession with food and cooking has grown to the point that it rivals her love for music and performing. The show is all about bringing together her two passions: connecting people through food and moving people through music.

During each performance, audience members will learn how to make each recipe, find out about the local produce, be treated to Michelle’s breathtaking interpretations of popular songs and be served up a taste of everything that’s cooked before their eyes.
