Each November more than 320,000 people line a 3.3km route in Adelaide, South Australia to watch and cheer the Credit Union Christmas Pageant; the traditional herald to the festive season.

Today marks the 80 day countdown until the 2010 Credit Union Christmas Pageant, and what better way to mark this milestone then unveiling the new ‘Christmas Around the World’ float. Brian Gilbertson, Event Director, Credit Union Christmas Pageant says the Christmas Around the World float symbolises the more than 100 different cultures that make up the multicultural fabric of South Australia.

“Christmas Around the World represents the unique nature of our community through the creation of baby animals from every continent,” Brian Gilbertson said.

Think of the classic adventure novel, Around the World in Eighty Days (London to Suez, Bombay to Calcutta, Hong Kong to Yokohama, San Francisco to New York City) as Christmas Around the World takes us to the four corners of the globe. In keeping with this year’s Pageant theme it celebrates that together, from all walks of life, we can make magic happen.

The former ‘world’ float has been retired from the Pageant fleet and the new one has been designed and created by Kari Lindsay, a new artist to the Credit Union Christmas Pageant.

“We are delighted to have such a talent in Kari Lindsay creating her first full float for the event, working to the theme of love, tolerance and peace through nature.

“Her background and experience with theatre set design is evident as she brings the float to life not only through the float itself but through the design of costumes in the form of baby Australian animal puppets.”

Each year Multicultural SA selects six different countries to be involved on Pageant day who dress in their national costume and walk in front of the float wishing the audience ‘Merry Christmas’ in their own language.

The Credit Union Christmas Pageant will be held in Adelaide on Saturday 13 November 2010, and this year is celebrating 78 years, with the theme ‘Together we can make magic happen’.For more information on the 2010 Credit Union Christmas Pageant, please visit www.cupageant.com.au
