Choo-Choo-Choose This Amazing Wine Train Experience

0

Yes you heard correctly. THERE IS A WINE TRAIN! And it’s steaming towards some of South Australia’s best wineries, for an experience unlike any other.

We could hardly contain our excitement when we discovered these incredible wine tours have been happening for a while, and with each date regularly selling out, it’s clearly a hot ticket. There’s a stack of upcoming dates for tours, so your colder months, needn’t be boring.

Dates for Winter 2018 kick off on Sunday 3rd June, followed by Sunday 17th June, Sunday 1st July, Sunday 29th July*, Sunday 19th August*, and then for Spring – Sunday 2nd September*- Father’s Day, Sunday 16th September*, Sunday 7th October, Sunday 21st October, Sunday 4th November & Sunday 18th November.

The South Coast Wine Train offers two options – leaving from Adelaide city (for an additional $34pp adults or $11pp kids) or departing from Mount Barker – and then the fun really begins.

Once you arrive in Mount Barker, guests step aboard the SteamRanger Southern Encounter (AKA the South Coast Wine Train) and travel via heritage train past the eucalyptus trees and through the rolling hills of the Mount Lofty Ranges to arrive at Strathalbyn.

Travel via coach the short distance to the vineyards of Langhorne Creek and arrive at your first winery for the day. Be guided through a tasting of wines in an informal, relaxed approach with our wine host and cellar door staff.

Enjoy a 2 course lunch at a local restaurant  and take the opportunity to sample a glass of wine from the region.
After lunch you will visit your second winery for the day, once again being educated by the friendly cellar door staff.

Travel through the Currency Creek wine region and arrive at the Port of Goolwa. Take the opportunity to sample some of the wines from 90 Mile Wines at the Wharf Barrel Shed or sit back on the deck overlooking the Murray River whilst enjoying a beer or whisky at the local Steam Exchange Brewery and Fleurieu Distillery.

Have the option to extend the visit at Goolwa and enjoy the atmosphere and activities at the wharf area, or continue further south to Victor Harbor and watch for whales along the coast as the area becomes the birthing ground of the Southern Right Whale from June until October.

On arrival at Victor Harbor reboard the South Coast Wine Train for the return journey to Mount Barker. Enjoy the surf and the sand as our train travels along the beach front through the dunes and along the coast of Encounter Bay and the Southern Ocean.

If taking the option to extend the visit at Goolwa, reboard the train as it collects guests from the station located on the wharf area on its way past.

Enjoy a local platter of cheeses, smallgoods and produce from the regions, enjoy a chat with a new friend and a laugh with an old as the train departs Goolwa and travels over the plains to Strathalbyn and starts to climb onward towards your destination of Mount Barker.

On arrival at Mount Barker our coach will be waiting to shuttle you back to the city of Adelaide and to your hotel.

Arrive in Adelaide at approximately 7pm and back to your city hotel.
