Fangirls is an upcoming original musical by Sydney playwright Yve Blake, under commission by the Australian Theatre for Young People. Set to premiere in early 2019, we are offered a rare workshop performance at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival this season.

Written and performed by Joanne Hartstone this cabaret show is fabulous – it’s entertaining, moving, amusing, has some great songs but more than anything it is thought provoking. There really was a woman who jumped off the Hollywood sign. Peg Entwistle jumped off the Hollywood sign in 1932. Although a successful performer on Broadway after less than a year in Los Angeles she was dead.

Johnny O’Keefe was Australia’s first rock rebel.  There at the dawn of rock and roll music in the 1950’s, O’Keefe blazed a massive trail.  Labelled ‘the Australian Elvis’, his wild ways cemented his place in local history.  Australia loves a naughty larrikin, of which O’Keefe certainly was.  His sometimes reckless behaviour eventually saw his career become derailed, but not from the hearts of fans.
