Catch a Wave in the Vines at Oliver’s Taranga

oliverstarangaOliver’s Taranga are bringing the sea to the vines in a unique way this weekend as part of the annual Sea and Vines Festival.

The winemaking and grape growing family will welcome a mechanical surfboard for punters at their sold out Sunday experience to add a true “sea flavour” to the day, raising money for the Moana Surf Livesaving Club at the same time.

“It’s a bit of fun to add to a solid line up of great local food and wine,” says winemaker Corrina Wright.

Chef Todd Steele (formerly of the Victory Hotel) will be cooking up a menu of local Swell beer-battered flathead and chips, beef burgers and a Clappis Cannoli ricotta, lemon and chocolate dessert.

“The Sea and Vines Weekend is also the time we release our new highly-anticipated small batch wine– Vermentino – an Italian variety from the 2013 vintage,” Corrina says. “It is a perfect white wine to go with seafood: light, fresh, crisp and dry, brilliant!”

“There’ll be music from Swap Sides and the day always ends with lots of people dancing. This year I’m sure we will have many people wanting to show their skills on the surfboard! We will be raising money for the local Moana Surf Lifesaving Club, so will be encouraging everyone to have a go!”

Also on the Sea and Vines agenda for the weekend for Oliver’s Taranga will be Saturday’s intimate Plumm Wine Experience at Elbow Room. Corrina Wright will be joined by  Andrew Wood, WayWood Wines for a private tasting in the cellar before enjoying lunch prepared by Nigel Rich in the private cottage.
