Channel Nine is on board as a major sponsor and has donated some great prizes (including four tickets to the upcoming Rolling Stones concert and a VIP tour of Channel Nine for the winning team) and work has begun creating a new race circuit with activities, attractions and puzzles to showcase the wonderful things Adelaide has to offer.

Adelaide City Council, Vinnies and Channel Nine are calling on ten corporate teams to compete in a quest to become the champions of Adelaide through the Race, have fun raising money for Vinnies, and get out and be active in the City while tapping into Council’s #ActiveAmbassador program.

Registrations are now open for business and community groups keen to field a team of four to take part in this “Amazing Race” style event which, in line with Council’s Good Evening Adelaide! and #ActiveAmbassador strategies, kicks off at 3pm before winding a trail through the Adelaide CBD and North Adelaide with a 7pm finish.

“Last year’s race by all accounts was a whole lot of fun, and I can’t think of a better reason to get out of the office and enjoy the afternoon than raising money that really will make a difference in the community,” said Peter Smith, CEO Adelaide City Council.

“Last year Council signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Vinnies pledging to raise $25,000 per year for three years through staff driven activities to help Vinnies’ good works, and I’m pleased to say we met the target in 2013 and are well on the way for 2014.

Race Around Adelaide is just one of the ideas Council staff have implemented to raise funds throughout the year including stalls, a staff winter sleep out, auctions and casual days.

“We love Adelaide, and the Race is a great way to share some of our favourite places and activities that people might not know about while giving back to our community,” Peter said.

Vinnies, Chief Executive Officer, David Wark is appreciative of the effort Adelaide City Council goes to in supporting the good works of Vinnies, and pleased with the addition of Channel Nine’s offer of sponsorship this year.

“Putting the fun of race day aside, the money raised from last year’s Race Around Adelaide provided just over 2500 warm, nutritious meals from our Fred’s Van service to men, women and children who are living on the margins and struggling to make ends meet through no fault of their own,” said David.

“This event is a great time from start to finish and achieves some excellent results. Corporate assistance through fund-raising and in-kind support is really important to Vinnies and it’s terrific to see the Adelaide City Council staff go to such lengths to lend a hand.

“Communities that work together really can make great steps toward permanent changes for the better. There are only ten team spaces and with two places already accounted for, there’s no time to waste,” he said.

The small investment of $2000 per team of four goes directly to supporting some of the assistance programs available through Vinnies in the city.

Council, Vinnies and Channel Nine staff members will be on hand throughout the event providing guidance and support to participants as well as encouragement along the way.

Race kits and further instructions for players are being held under tight security at mission control head-quarters and will be revealed to players closer to the 24 October race day.

The Race will culminate in an end of race celebration event, where results will be tallied and the winners announced.

Teams will also be able to upload photos of their groups competing in the Race to a range of social media platforms through Channel Nine’s onsite social media portal.

Priority goes to the first ten teams to register, so get in quickly by emailing [email protected] or go to http://www.adelaidecitycouncil.com/your-council/role-of-council/corporate-social-responsibility/ for more information.
