Butterbeer Makes Its Delicious Debut In Adelaide (sans Harry Potter)

It’s the news South Aussie Muggles and Harry Potter fans have been waiting for. Butterbeer has arrived in Adelaide and if Hermione’s love of the frothy drink is anything to go by, we’re all in for a treat.

It’s the news South Aussie Muggles and Harry Potter fans have been waiting for. Butterbeer has arrived in Adelaide and if Hermione’s love of the frothy drink is anything to go by, we’re all in for a treat.

Described in the Harry Potter books as “a little less sickly butterscotch” flavoured drink, the inventive team over at Creperie Bruxelles (home of Adelaide’s Famous Poffertjes) have created their own version, which is much more palatable.

As the great minds behind last year’s Egg-spresso (for Easter of course), staying ahead of the trends is Creperie Bruxelles calling card.

Since its unveiling on Friday, the Butterbeer has been sampled by some die hard fans who have visited HP theme parks in Japan, and done the London Studio Tour, and both said that the Creperie Bruxelles version was better ….”not so sickly sweet”. The overseas versions use whipped cream for froth, which was withheld from the Adelaide version concocted by Irene Tredrea.

Irena is keeping the ingredients to her Butterbeer close to her chest, but can reveal that it’s closer to an ice-cream float which works well as the drink looks ‘beer-like’. It has a good, firm frothy head, and isn’t to sickly sweet. It’s also non-alcoholic, so it’s great for fans of all ages.

The Butterbeer was debuted two nights ago when Creperie Bruxelles reopened after a six week closure for their annual ‘working holiday’ in The Garden for Fringe. To keep things fresh, they’ve stopped their cocktail menu and changed the bar area into a Milk Bar … retro style. Irena wanted to take milkshakes back to basics.. “you know, without the 5000 calories in the form of five donuts, a packet of biscuits and a jar of Nutella stuck to the side.” And what better way to launch the Milk Bar than with Butterbeer!

So while the winds roar around Adelaide today, we suggest heading to Creperie Bruxelles to check it out. There can’t be a better combination than Poffertjes with Rum Butter, Cream and Lemon, washed down by and ice cold Butterbeer.

Creperie Bruxelles is Adelaide’s first Belgian Creperie.
