Barossa ‘Federweisser’ Celebrates The First Wine Of The Season

We owe a great deal to our rich German heritage in South Australia, few regions more so than the Barossa.

Now more than 160 years after settlement, an age old culinary secret is finally seeing the light of day. Vintage 2012 heralds the launch of the first commercial Australian release of Barossa Federweisser (Feather Wine) by Taste Eden Valley.

Angaston based wine retailer and producer Karina Kroehn of Taste Eden Valley and partner Nathan Norman of Tin Shed Wines have joined forces to unveil Federweisser.

The revival of Federweisser was inspired by Karina Kroehn’s desire to share the traditions of her German family ancestry and offer a unique and authentic experience at her Taste Eden Valley wine room during Barossa Vintage Festival. The popular seasonal wine has captured the imagination of customers and engaged the Barossa community.

“The response to Federweisser has been amazing. We have renowned local chefs like Mark McNamara from Appellation using Federweisser as part of his degustation menu and Maggie Beer stops by our stall in the Farmer’s Market each week to pick up her bottle,“ says Karina.

Born of a longstanding European tradition, Federweisser is a seasonal, semi-fermented wine that heralds the first wines of the new vintage.

Fresh and vibrant in style, Federweisser can be characterised somewhere between chilled fizzy apricot juice, pear cider and low alcohol lemonade.

You can enjoy the unique flavour the Barossa Federweisser at the German Arms Hotel in Hahndorf, Barossa Valley Farmers Markets, Appellation at the Louise and Taste Eden Valley cellar door.

Federweisser will be available until the end of April so get in quick and don’t miss out!
