Fancy playing hitting some cricket balls whilst floating on the Torrens pontoon during the Ashes? Enjoy some drinks in the Summer sun while the DJs play, while you hit up a swag of food trucks. It’s time. The party has arrived.

The famed Adelaide Festival Pontoon lives to see another day, starting this Friday as a celebration of the great Australian tradition of backyard cricket transforming the pontoon into the best place to watch The Ashes (outside the oval, that is)!! Check out our FIRST LOOK at the new area!!

The Backyard Cricket Pontoon (BYC Pontoon) is the first activation on the fully remediated Adelaide Festival Pontoon in Elder Park and over the Adelaide Test it will embrace the essence of Test match cricket and be accessible to everyone.

BYC Pontoon is Adelaide’s newest, pop up social hub and celebrates the Ashes. It opens on Friday, December 1 at 11am and will trade over the test match.

Adelaide Pontoon Corporation spokesperson, Martin Palmer said: “The pontoon is a unique opportunity and we’re excited to be a part of it.

“The Riverbank is such an iconic Adelaide landmark and the opportunity to contribute to its vibrancy and to give the people of Adelaide an event space on the River Torrens is something we’re really passionate about.

“So, whether you’re a fan of test match cricket or just want to enjoy the Riverbank, the BYC Pontoon will be buzzing during the Ashes.”

Featuring big screens, an Adelaide Oval score board themed bar,a supervised practice cricket net with its own mechanical bowling machine, the BYC Pontoon is all about fun and will have a retro feel.

Entry is free, and DJs will play into the evening.

Mr Palmer said: “Lion Nathan is our major partner in this activity with XXXX Gold being the predominate brand along with other Lion beer products available.

“Pimms and wine will also be available along with soft drink and water.”

Food will be provided by food trucks situated on the Riverbank.

Mr Palmer said: “We urge anyone in the CBD to visit the BYC Pontoon and soak up the atmosphere of the Ashes”

Adelaide Festival engaged Adelaide Pontoon Corporation (APC) to manage the activation of the pontoon outside Adelaide Festival engagements.

Adelaide Festival Deputy Executive Director Torben Brookman said: “We are pleased with the refurbishment works which have taken place on the Pontoon. We are grateful to the City of Adelaide for their on-going support which will enable the Adelaide Festival to deliver a sensational program of events on the Adelaide Festival Palais including Breakfast with Papers, Forums, Long Lunches and an incredible range of contemporary music artists late into the night.”

The Backyard Cricket Pontoon will be open from Friday, December 1 at 11am and trade throughout the test match.
