AWL Animal Reunion

animal welfare leagureThe Animal Welfare League (AWL) is holding the first ever Animal Reunion in Adelaide, to bring together AWL dog and cat lovers in an effort to break the Guinness World Record™ for the Largest Reunion of Adopted Shelter Animals.

The AWL Animal Reunion will be a community event for all pet owners, to be held on Sunday October 10th (10.10.10) at Bonython Park.  Adopters of AWL animals are all invited to participate in the record breaking attempt, and also to help celebrate what it means to adopt a shelter animal.

AWLSA Public Relations and Communications Officer, Brenda Champion says the AWL Animal Reunion will be a fun community event for all pet owners and will also highlight the importance of adopting from the AWL – giving a lost and abandoned animal a second chance.

“Over the years, the AWL has re-homed thousands of lost and abandoned animals. We will continue to deliver the message of Responsible Pet Ownership by demonstrating the importance of dogs and cats to be microchipped, vaccinated and de-sexed and bring together AWL adopted animals in a fun community environment. We invite everyone who has adopted a dog or cat from the AWL to register to participate in the official Guinness World Record™ count. Only those animals adopted from the AWL will be eligible for the count, but we welcome all others pet owners to come and support the AWL and join this fun community event.”

To be a part of the Guinness World Record™ Attempt, AWL pet owners can download a registration form at www.animalwelfare.com.au or by calling 8348 1300. Registrations must close on Tuesday 5th October.

(Pre-registration only – no registrations on the day)

Gates open at 9.00am with registrations until 12.30pm and the official Guinness World Record™ attempt commencing at 1.10pm.

There will be food and drink stalls, face painting and entertainment including animal behaviour demonstrations from AWL Staff and a Police Dog demonstration from the team at SAPOL.  Entry to the Animal Reunion is free.

“We encourage all pet owners to join this community event and support the AWL. The primary focus of the AWL is to re-home lost and abandoned animals in South Australia and this event will bring together those animals that were once at the AWL but are now in a forever home”, says Brenda.

All money raised on the day will help the AWL continue to care for the animals in the shelter right now and prepare for the ones that will find their way into the AWL in the future.
