ANZAC Day in the City

AdelaideVisitors, local residents and community groups are encouraged to head into the City on Sunday 25 April to take part in ANZAC Day. ANZAC Day event information, road closures, City trading hours, UPark opening hours and other important details are listed below.

ANZAC Day events in the City include:

  • ANZAC Eve Youth Vigil Ceremony – 6pm Saturday 24 April until 6am Sunday 25 April, State National War Memorial, North Terrace
  • ANZAC Day Dawn Service – 6.15am Sunday 25 April, State National War Memorial, North Terrace
  • Australian Light Horse Remembrance Service – 8.15am Sunday 25 April, Light Horse Memorial on the corner of North and East Terrace.
  • ANZAC Day March – 9.30am Sunday 25 April, begins corner of Kintore Avenue and North Terrace and finishes at the Cross of Sacrifice on Sir Edwin Smith Avenue

Road closures in the City for ANZAC Day:

For the ANZAC Day Dawn Service the following road closures will apply in the City.

  • Kintore Avenue between Morgan Thomas Lane and North Terrace will be closed from 4am until 7.15am
  • North Terrace between King William Road and Pulteney Street will be closed from 5am until 7.15am

From 8am until 12pm, these road closures will apply in the City for the ANZAC Day March.

  • Hindmarsh Square between Pirie Street and Grenfell Street
  • Pulteney Street between Flinders Street and North Terrace
  • Grenfell Street between Gawler Place and Frome Street
  • Rundle Street between Pulteney Street and Frome Street
  • North Terrace between Frome Street and Station Road

From 8.30am until 12pm, these road closures will apply in the City for the ANZAC Day March.

  • King William Road between North Terrace and Kermode Street
  • Sir Edwin Smith Avenue between King William Road and Kermode Street
  • Pennington Terrace between King William Road and Sir Edwin Smith Avenue
  • Victoria Drive between King William Road and Kintore Avenue
  • Victor Richardson Road in its entirety.

For the ANZAC Day Diggers Reunion Waymouth Street between Bentham Street and Young Street will be closed from 5am Sunday 25 April until 1am Monday 26 April.

Please note: The Grenfell Street and Rundle Street UParks will be inaccessible from 8.30am until 12.00pm on Sunday 25 April.

Anyone who presents their service medals or is dressed in military uniform will receive free parking at some UParks on ANZAC Day. This will not apply at Frome Street, Pirie Street or Topham Mall UParks.

Visit a Victoria Cross:

The Adelaide Town Hall Council Chamber will open on Sunday 25 April from 10am until 2pm, giving members of the public the opportunity to view the Victoria Cross of Roy Inwood.

Roy Inwood, former Adelaide City Council employee from 1928 – 1955, was awarded the VC for an act of bravery during World War I.

Trading Hours for ANZAC Day:

Rundle Mall:

  • Some smaller specialty shops/cafés may be open on Sunday 25 April from 12pm until 5pm.
  • All shops will be closed for the ANZAC Day public holiday on Monday 26 April.

Rundle Street Market:

  • The Market will be open on Sunday 25 April from 12pm until 6pm.
