The Adelaide Fashion Festival presented by Mercedes-Benz Adelaide has kicked off in its signature style and will celebrate the city’s creative industries over the next four days.
The annual fashion event launched with the Colour Immersion Runway presented by local artist and designer Tiff Manuell. Part performance, part runway, the opening show was a collaboration between South Australian creatives including Natalie Ivanov (Natalie and the Seams clothing design), Oisima (musician), Deni Jones (Cul-de-sac Creative, producer), Penelope Shum (choreography and dance) and more.
The show featured voluminous dresses, sheer capes and swimwear all touched by the bold, bright palette Tiff has made her trademark.
Tiff Manuell is one of South Australia’s industry leaders, with international stockists of her staple clutch handbags including the Tate Modern gallery in London.
Running from Wednesday 11 until Sunday 15 October, the Adelaide Fashion Festival will deliver 10 major runways along with a range of events celebrating local, national and international design and style.
Long lunches, masterclasses, markets and more await fashion followers; festival guests include models Jennifer Hawkins, Megan Irwin and Akiima, and Vogue Australia editor-in-chief Edwina McCann.
Adelaide Fashion Festival creative director Chris Kontos said it was an exciting time.
“In our third year running the Adelaide Fashion Festival we are thrilled to present so many new events and elements – from the AFF x White Marquee Grounds where you can enjoy great food, wine and a beauty bar to the inaugural Vogue Festival, AFF17 is unlike any event before it,” he said.
“Our local fashion industry is strengthening every day, and we’ve seen so many achievements by our designers over the past 12 months – including Tiff Manuell – from media coverage and red carpet moments to business growth and increased stockists.
“We’re really proud to present this program to the public. There is an event that is accessible to everyone, because that’s what fashion is. It’s part of day-to-day life which should be celebrated and enjoyed, and Adelaide is the perfect place to do that.”
