Y’all, the N’awlins is coming to Adelaide… Get set to throw on a feather boa and get all Mardi Gras up in here because Fat Tuesday is coming to Adelaide’s East End, on a Friday…
Fat Tuesday? Yeah, we had to ask the question too. Also referred to as Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday is actually just Shrove Tuesday. It is a street carnival that is celebrated all over the world. Music, parades, picnics (hello food and wine), colour and fun! Whatever it is, it sounds like our kind of jam.
The vibing hub of coolness that is Vardon Avenue will be transformed into a New Orleanean French Quarter, with all things creole hitting the East End on Friday 12 February.
We are talking southern American food, craft beer and other drinks (please let it be all of the wine…) from some of the East End’s most popular hang outs. The hottest new venue on Adelaide’s small bar scene, NOLA Adelaide (see more here), will be serving up Kickin’ Chicken and Fried Green Tomatoes; East End Cellars will be bringing the goods with charcuterie and cheese (YES); Mother Vine will have the southern style cuisine covered; El Choto Paella Catering will be dishing out a version of Jumbolya; and then there will be Exchange Coffee and Cafe du Monde (the event’s own cafe) just to round everything out. Basically we can forgot anything tight, stretchy pants will be required for this bad boy!
And what would a Mardi Gras party be without all of the music… So to keep things jazzy there will be live jazz music (go figure) along with tunes from The Atlantic Street band and Adam Page. Heck there will even be some showgirls to really set the scene. We will be wondering if we are in Adelaide or New Orleans (which we think may be the point).
