Adelaide Street Artist Brings Laneway Vibes To Interactive SALA Exhibition

Jack stretches the confinements of a typically conservative art festival with his laid-back attitude and street artist rep. This SALA exhibition is definitely one to check out.

Envious of Melbourne’s cool vibes, artsy laneways and funky hang-outs? Well you’re in luck. No plane ticket needed. The Oxford Hotel’s recent revamp into a cultural art hub/kitsch Melbourne-esque hideaway, has meant it was the perfect spot for Jack Fran’s SALA exhibition entitled “Inner Gifts”. While the SALA exhibition won’t be for long, Jack’s artwork will feature throughout The Oxford over the next six months as the hotel’s first resident art curator.

The OxfordJack stretches the confinements of a typically conservative art festival with his laid-back attitude and street artist rep. He jokes about hating stuffy exhibitions (besides the free drinks – which we can all relate, amirite?) and envisioned “Inner Gifts” as a really fun, interactive showcase of his work. Well, he nailed it. The majority of his pieces sold before even coming to the exhibition, but that didn’t stop the crowd pointing and claiming IF only.

Dubbed a “multi-sensory journey of self and the evolution of purpose”, we were thrilled that each piece in the collection had indeed a purpose. As you moved through the rooms you were gestured not only to see the art but to touch, smell and even taste it. Yeah, you read that right. Edible art… wait, edible VEGAN art.

The roses in this particular piece are made of fondant and can be plucked at any moment for some sweet, sweet satisfaction while you’re serenaded with some live acoustics.

The Oxford

Canvased blooms begged you to smell them as you walked past; bringing back memories of childhood scratch and sniff stickers (just don’t scratch these). Each canvas so uniquely perfumed, your worries of looking silly smelling a painting melted right away.

The lightboxes were a delicate resemblance of our “Inner Gifts” shining through the paint and a reminder that we’re all capable of beautiful, amazing things. Thanks Jack.

You can catch Jack Fran’s SALA exhibition at The Oxford Hotel, 101 O’Connell St, North Adelaide Friday 12 August from 7-10pm and Saturday 13 between 11am-2pm. Otherwise drop in for a delicious cocktail and marvel at the walls while you still can.
