Adelaide Gin Barons Scoop Australian Gin Of The Year

The team from Prohibition Liquor Co have positioned themselves amongst the best in the world. Not bad for a business less than a year old!

When you have the drive to create something, you shouldn’t do it by halves. That’s probably the lesson to take from watching the incredible ascension of Prohibiition Liquor Co. It was December 1st 2015 when Adam Carpenter and Wes Heddles walked the streets of Adelaide with a case of their first batch in hand, hoping to find a few local bars to stock them.

The hard work that went into that moment alone, made the pair feel on top of the world when The Admiral Marcus of Hains & Co. bought their first bottle. Fast forward nearly twelve months and their hard work keep reaping rewards, as they have enjoyed a flurry of awards, including being named Australian Gin of The Year.

Developed in collaboration with the expert know-how of Brendan Carter from Applewood Distillery in Gumeracha, Prohibition Gin’s primary goal was to be ridiculously drinkable, without unnecessary wank or pretense. And that seems to have hit the spot with the judges at the New York International Spirits Competition, who last week named their Bathtub Cut Gin Australia’s finest gin, along with a Silver Medal overall.

This was swiftly followed by a further two Silver Medals for both Prohibition Liquor Co Gins at the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Wine and Spirit Competition. And top it all off with a Gold and Silver again from the  Melbourne International Beverage Competition.

There’s even more on the way too…

But for the moment, we hope the lads can take a second to savor their incredible achievements so far! Congratulations!

Oh, and if you’ve never tried either of these beauties before, there’s no better time than now. Jump onto their Facebook to stay across their pop-up bars, or head to Hains & Co at 23 Gilbert Pl for a nip or three.
