MTV’s first ever Australian and New Zealand Brand New Competition sees South Australian band, At Sunset, in the running to take out top gong.
The pop rock band, made up of brothers Harrison and Andrew Kantarias and their friend Tom Williams, formed in 2012 and have been going from success to success.
The trio’s band name ‘At Sunset’ is a metaphor for their feeling towards music. They say the upbeat, positive feeling they get from playing music is just like a setting sun.
Harrison and Tom both play guitar and sing for the group, with Andrew playing the drums and also lending some vocals of his vocal talent.
Since making their online presence last year, the band have exceeded five million views on YouTube, have 300,000 combined Twitter followers, and 950,000 combined Facebook followers, plus an ever increasing army of fans globally. At Sunset’s single ‘Replay’ exceeded 400,000 YouTube views in the first two weeks of uploading and was endorsed by the original artist, Zendaya.
The band have also toured with Australian pop artist and fellow South Aussie, Reece Mastin. In May 2014 the boys undertook a promotional tour of the USA and secured interviews with Ryan Seacrest, Tiger Beat Magazine and The Rhonde Show.
Now they are part of this fantastic competition that kicked off on July 6. It allows for the public to vote online for their favourite emerging Aussie or Kiwi artist. MTV then gives the artists the support and exposure that they need to breakthrough onto international music charts.
After the success of MTV Brand New in the UK, which saw Sam Smith, Florence and the Macine, Adele, Jessie J, Charli XCX and James bay all launched onto the international scene, there are high hopes for the artists in the Aussie/New Zealand branch of the competition.
