Adelaide’s The Manse sweeps the board at the LifeStyle FOOD Channel Australian Regional Culinary Competition

The ManseAdelaide’s The Manse restaurant swept the board at the LifeStyle FOOD Channel Australian Regional Culinary Competition awards ceremony at the Adelaide InterContinental on Saturday 1 May.

The team from The Manse beat competition from ten other finalists from across Australia to win the Gold Award for Best Region as well as awards for the Best Entrée, Best Main and Best Dessert.

The LifeStyle FOOD Channel Australian Regional Culinary Competition was held on Saturday 1 May at the TAFE SA Regency Campus where teams of chefs from across Australia battled it out in a competition to see which region could dish up the best food and wine.

Each team created three-course meals, which were judged by renowned chefs and food critics including Ben O’Donoghue , Kate Lamont, Pete Evans, Frank Camorra and John Lethlean. The teams were critiqued on their culinary expertise, technical ability, imaginative use of produce, presentation and wine matching.

Other awards went to Perth’s Greenhouse, which won the Silver Award for Best Region and the award for Best Food and Wine Matching. The TasSouth team from Tasmania won the Bronze Award for Best Region and their team member Cameron Perry was named Best Apprentice.

Founded in 1997, the LifeStyle FOOD Channel Australian Regional Culinary Competition is the only competition of its kind, aiming to recognise, develop and promote professional cookery by attracting teams from around Australia.

“This exciting and unique competition is a wonderful celebration of regional cuisine,” said Nicole Sheffield, General Manager, LifeStyle FOOD Channel.

“I’m certain that in supporting this competition we are not only helping to promote these passionate and talented chefs and their regions, we’re also uncovering some of the stars of tomorrow.”

The winners of the 2010 LifeStyle FOOD Chanel Australian Regional Culinary Competition were:

Best Region Gold– The Manse, Adelaide City
Best Region Silver– Greenhouse, Perth
Best Region Bronze– TasSouth, Tasmania
Best Entrée– The Manse, Adelaide City
Best Main Course– The Manse, Adelaide City
Best Dessert– The Manse, Adelaide City
Best Food and Wine Matching- Greenhouse, Perth
Best Apprentice
– Cameron Perry, TasSouth

As the gold winners, The Manse team has won a 12 day trip to Cambodia, one of the last remaining Kingdoms in the world. The tour will be hosted by respected chef and Cambodia food ambassador Don Hancey.
