Anderson Hill Winery in Lenswood has always been known for its beautiful outlook, laid back atmosphere and amazing wood-fire pizzas. But now this gem of a cellar door has expanded, with owners Clare and Ben Anderson adding “The Vine” restaurant to the mix.
This new space, built by the Anderson family with the help of a few friends too, is an exciting addition to the property. Throughout the process, the Anderson’s captured all the fun and games of building, and photobooks of the adventure were displayed for all to see on opening night. One of the things we really loved about this project is that visitors to the winery purchasing owner Claire Anderson’s artwork during the build were essentially funding a part of the structure. Each piece had an explanation of what part of the building would be created with the sale. Such an awesome idea, and now those that bought the art can point out what they have helped to be a part of.
The Vine Restaurant, although much bigger than the original cellar door space, still feels warm and welcoming. Artwork of native flowers by Kathy Doley adorn the walls adding a bright splash of colour and timber floors, corrugated ceiling and reclaimed wooden beams give it a rustic and homely look. The space is topped off by the impressive chandeliers that were painstakingly handmade by owner Clare out of old wine bottles. She is such a clever cookie!
And then there is that spectacular vineyard view. The Vine Restaurant opens up on to a generous deck area that looks out over the vineyard – a perfect place for that selfie!
So what about the menu I hear you say? Well, you won’t be disappointed with this hearty fare. Twice cooked crispy chicken, roasted pork belly and eight hour slow braised lamb shoulder are just a part of the main menu. There is also a tapas selection and a long lunch menu when you have the time to settle in and get comfortable for an indulgent lunch experience. For those of you that were Anderson Hill pizza fans (me, me, me), you will be pleased to know that your favourite wood-fired treats are still on the menu.
Anderson Hill Winery has been home to many a wedding ceremony in the past, but with the new restaurant, decked area and menu, it’s now even more perfect for your big day. Look at this gorgeous set up.
