A Midwinter Cellar Door Is Happening In Adelaide This Solstice

Celebrate the winter solstice this June with wine, cheese, and friends!

‘Solstice. A midwinter cellar door’ celebrates the shortest day of the year as the pagans intended – by drinking wine and feasting with friends.

Fifteen South Australian wineries and five South Australian food producers will be helping Adelaideans keep out the cold on Friday, 15 June in a pop-up event at the former Royal Adelaide Hospital foyer on North Terrace from 5pm until 8pm.

Everyone’s welcome to come along, grab a glass and a plate, and have chat with the people behind these great local brands.

Food South Australia CEO Catherine Sayer says events like these are important to both consumers and producers, giving consumers a chance to try something new, and producers a chance to connect directly with their customers.

“Food and wine are highlights of the South Australian economy, and bringing them together like this is not only a great way to introduce consumers to new products and brands, it’s also a fun event in a place we might not normally be able to visit,” Catherine says.

“Above all, both food and wine are about sharing and enjoyment, and this event is all about appealing to anyone with an interest in drinking and eating well!”

South Australian Wine Industry Association Chief Executive, Brian Smedley agreed, adding “this event provides the opportunity to explore premium branded wine and food that is South Australian, come along, enjoy and explore something new”.

Showing off their delicious drops at the midwinter cellar door are Ashton Hills Vineyard, Byrne Vineyards, Claymore Wines, Golding Wines, Gomersal Wines, Haselgrove Wines, Hugo Wines, Kimbolton Wines, Lindsay Wine Estate, Longview Vineyard, Majella Wines, Penny’s Hill, A Good Dirt, Silent Noise and Yangarra Estate Vineyard.

They will be joined by Beyond India, Bracegirdle’s House of Fine Chocolate, Forage & Feast, Kimchi Club and Woodside Cheese Wrights serving up their delectable delights throughout the evening.

Entry is by the purchase of a souvenir wine glass at the event for $5, with food and wines for sale (wine by the half or full glass, and by the bottle to take home or out to Friday night dinner.)

Solstice. A midwinter cellar Door is presented by the South Australian Wine Industry Association, Food South Australia, 365 Days of Wine and Food and Adelaide a Great Wine Capital of the World.
