Hybrid World Adelaide (HWA), the new event dedicated to how the real and digital worlds are intertwined, recently unveiled its public program featuring a world first for League of Legends to take place in South Australia.
The five-day event in October with an 2-day industry conference as well as entertainment and interactive activities for consumers of all ages across the remaining 3 days. The event will showcase everything from VR, AR, AI, drones, gaming and music, to bio-tech, agri-digital and app commerce, with interactive sessions, group gaming, a trade show, and an industry addressing topics such as cyber protection, app economy, how digital technology will enhance human mental capabilities and how technology is shaping the media.

Zedtown – WIN tickets here

In this immersive game of Survivors vs Zombies hundreds of players, armed with only their Nerf-blasters, battle to make it to the final stand in a post-apocalypse-themed adventure.

On Saturday the 7th of October, The University of Adelaide‘s North Terrace Campus will be transformed into a divided city where human survivors (the players), take up dart blasters and battle against infected zombies. Everyone starts as a Survivor and each player works with their squad to make it to the final stand. When you’re tagged by a Zombie, you become one, too, and there’s only one thing you want: Hunt the most braaaaains. Players hold out for as long as they can using ingenuity, clever tactics and clues via Zedtown’s app in a desperate bid to stay human and escape Hybrid World Adelaide’s Zedtown: The Divided City. The Freudian Nip presets: Being Funny Online

Got the comedy chops to pen the next Broad City or The Katering Show? Expose your comedic voice to the world (aka the internet) care of this rollicking workshop by Freudian Nip. Take your funny script or idea and translate it for a digital audience. With a focus on women’s voices, Freudian Nip will explore and critique case studies of amusing Australian figures on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

Led by Victoria Zerbst and Jenna Owen, this Sydney-based comedy collective built their following online. Now they perform at festivals, create viral videos for Junkee Media, write online articles for The Chaser, and host a weekly news roundup on FBI Radio. In 2017, the duo received ABC TV’s Fresh Blood grant, and will soon showcase their sketches on ABC2’s Aaron Chen Tonight and Fox8’s The Slot.

Freudian Nip will also be showing-off their comedy chops in a performance on the HWA Main Stage. The girls will show you their skills that made them internet famous!

Sabre and Biggy Norris

Digital influencer stars Sabre Norris and her brother Biggy Norris will visit Adelaide for the first time to attend the new digital technology festival Hybrid World Adelaide (HWA).

Sabre, who shot to fame when US TV host Ellen DeGeneres discovered one of her many surfing and skating YouTube videos, will appear with Biggy on the HWA Main Stage for two sessions on Sunday 8 October. Come along to meet and greet Sabre and Biggy on Sunday, or come along to their session on ‘How to Become a Successful Influencer’.

MOD. Robot Design Studio

Do androids dream of electric sheep? Depends how you program them! Learn the basics of robot coding with the MOD. squad. This beginner-friendly workshop teaches the fundamentals of robot movement using three automaton models: one with two legs, one with six, and one with no legs at all. Find your feet using familiar drag-and-drop tools, then dive into some advanced Python programming. Endow the robots with personalities, fancy fist-bump functionality, maybe even a dance move or two. You’ll leave with a USB storing the scripts you wrote and the tools you need to keep coding at home. When MOD. opens in 2018, try your new code out on their resident robots.
