P1000137-1Following a successful launch in 2012, the South Australian Kangaroo Island FEASTival is a 5 day gastronomic celebration this coming April. The FEASTival incorporates over 30 individual events hosted by Australia’s leading celebrity and local chefs, which will bring the best of Kangaroo Island to your plate.

Dine as one of Mother Nature’s very own invited guests on idyllic Kangaroo Island or enjoy a selection of local gourmet delights staged around the island’s natural pristine wilderness. There’s no better a location to savour such fresh produce and globally acclaimed wines & beverages than what is offered by Kangaroo Island.

Unlike most other food and wine festivals, the signature style of FEASTival is to provide a degustation of extraordinary dining events that are diverse, personable and intimate underpinned by the exquisite outdoor natural beauty that only this peaceful island can offer.

WILDERNESS EVENTS

A unique set of activities which feature Kangaroo Island’s stunning wilderness and outdoor locations as part of this exciting event program. Guests will be invited to plunge into Kangaroo Island’s maritime history and visit the picturesque village of American River and the Kangaroo Island Shelfish Farm. Here guests will be able to wade knee-deep to savour the taste of the farm’s fresh oysters served from fishing boats in the shallows before you venture back on dry land to the processing shed for a lunch menu created by Justin Harman and his renowned cheeses from Island Pure Sheep Dairy.

TABLE SURFING

Unique to Kangaroo Island, the table surfing concept offers visitors an exclusive opportunity to share a home cooked meal in the private home of island-based local cooks or producers. Think ‘a special dinner party at home’ with a group of friends whilst offering a more personal experience as all hosts are also encouraged to dine with the guests. You don’t have to be a chef… you just have to love cooking and entertaining!

POP–UP EVENTS

Celebrating the uniqueness and diversity of what Kangaroo Island best offers, FEASTival will host a number of specially created events not available at any other time of the year. Located at exclusive venues around the island, guests will have the opportunity to attend “Pollen Ate” which held in token appreciation of Kangaroo Island’s love of honey, is unveiled with a six -course honey inspired dinner hosted by notable Chef Tim Bourke from Southern Ocean Lodge.

MEET THE MAKERS

Supporting local businesses from cellar door, restaurant and café to that of retail outlets, this concept is designed to encourage special tastings and interactive opportunities where attendees have the opportunity to meet the people or person behind the produce or beverage they are sampling. Experience a gin master class with Kangaroo Island Spirits, taste exclusive wines from both Islander Estate and Snow Dragon Wines, sample fresh water crayfish and a complimentary glass of wine or enjoy a glass of vino on the cliff tops of Dudley Estate.

In addition to this, visitors will be invited to spend the day at FEASTKI which will consist of a number of interactive stalls, be introduced to a wide range of local produce, cooking and preparation demonstrations with an additional opportunity to meet local producers and chefs including well known local and 2014 ambassador Kate Sumner whom will be one of the judges of the featured Tourism Kangaroo Island signature dish competition.

This year FEASTival will welcome innovative chef Matt Moran and legendary Margaret Fulton as the “faces” of the event and both will host a unique and exclusive experience during the FEASTival period.

FEASTival will launch on the 24th April 2014 with a spectacular opening night feast hosted by renowned chef and author Matt Moran and proudly supported by Sealink. The event will be located on a working farm owned and managed by Tony Nolan. This Argentinean inspired menu will feature pigs, ducks, geese, lamb and other meats cooked over the open coals on a 15- metre long custom made grill built from old farm implements. This entire farm themed setting will bring the ‘farm to table’ story to life whilst cooking live in front of guests located under the Southern Stars to the traditional magical music of the South American tango.

On Sunday 27th April, guests will be invited to meet Australia’s national living culinary treasure Margaret Fulton at Quentin Anderson’s Kangaroo Island Farm for a nostalgic 1930’s country garden style lunch. Joined by acclaimed home grown chef, Rebecca Sullivan, guests will have the rare opportunity to sample some of Margaret’s most loved and iconic dishes whilst meandering through the property, owned by Kangaroo Island local Charlie Anderson, viewing preserves being made, wool classing and an exhibition hosting various local arts.

FEASTival will be held from Thursday 24th April – Monday 28th April 2014 with tickets available on sale in late November 2013.
